your physician’s game plan for best possible function

You hadn’t planned on that back surgery…or the fall on the ice and a broken ankle…or developing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome…or the stroke that’s compromised the right side of your body. Now, you find yourself in Bay Regional Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Services program. A variety of therapeutic experts will work together, following your physician’s "game plan". They will provide therapies that can restore function, mobility, range-of-motion, relieve pain, and get you as close as possible to the life you led before your surgery, injury or disability.
Rehabilitative services can include physical therapy, occupational therapy, and/or speech-language pathology. They work as a team in using therapies that demand focus, concentration, repetition, and determination. They will motivate you to exceed what you achieved in your last therapy session. They will challenge you to set goals, and push beyond your own expectations. They know therapy is hard work. It can be painful, tedious, and tax your patience.
But, think of yourself as their "star" player. At some point, you will achieve the major goals of your physician’s "game plan." Your Rehab Services team is preparing you to re-enter your most important game – Your Life, with sufficient strength, mobility and function to live, work and play as independently as possible. What lies ahead is to keep up the therapies and exercises, perhaps in outpatient rehab, but certainly in daily living and community life. The crucial goal your rehab team hopes you set for yourself is to, "Never, ever give up!"
Inpatient medical rehabilitation is provided at Bay Regional Medical Center’s main campus at 1900 Columbus Ave., and at BRMC’s West Campus, 3520 E. Midland Road.
