Keeping your breathing in
tip top condition is the role of our respiratory therapists. Jim
Blondell and Doug Cojeen are dedicated professionals who will make sure
you know how to exercise your lungs prior to and after surgery. They'll be right
at your side after surgery, and you'll see them often as you
recover. |
The two Tims……Tim Weiss, perfusionist, will be standing by to operate
the heart lung machine that will keep your blood circulating during
surgery. Tim Grillo RN, is there to welcome you into the OR suite and make
sure that everything runs smoothly during your operation. He also will be
phoning your family from the operating room to update them on your
progress.
|
Ruth Pomerville, RN. Ruth's gentle, soothing demeanor will help you relax
as she helps you prepare for surgery. She will care for you while under anesthesia
and will also phone your family to update them periodically throughout the operation.
Andrea and Mike, anesthesia technicians, are standing by to assist as well. |

Dr. Robert Holmes, MD, looking cheerful and
relaxed (though in a few minutes he’ll be doing a four hour
surgery!). |
Vern Botts,
R.Ph., Clinical Pharmacist, and Dr. Shahzad Manawar, MD. Vern is our
cardiac pharmacist and will be reviewing your medications and making
adjustments in collaboration with your physicians. Many things (age, kidney function, weight, gender) can affect how much medication you need. A pharmacist will review these medications carefully to assure you are getting the correct dose. Dr. Manawar is our pulmonologist (lung doctor) and will be managing your breathing machine for the short time you will need it after surgery. |
Roger Ward,
Physician Assistant (PA). You’ll see Roger often during your hospital stay
as he is your cardiac surgeon’s right hand man. His big smile and hearty
laugh will often greet you prior to surgery to review
your health history. He is with you in the surgical suite
and will check on you daily while you are in the hospital. He
will fret about whether you are eating enough or getting the activity you need to heal optimally. You and Roger will get to be good friends! |
