The Role of a Physician Assistant in Cardiothoracic Medicine

As a Physician Assistant in the cardiothoracic department, you will work alongside renowned Cardiothoracic Surgeons and assist in diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with various cardiovascular and thoracic conditions. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting thorough patient assessments, including medical history, physical examinations, and diagnostic test interpretations.
  • Assisting in surgical procedures, including open-heart surgeries, lung surgeries, and other complex procedures.
  • Collaborating with the medical team to develop comprehensive treatment plans and evaluating patient progress.
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, such as EKGs, echocardiograms, and cardiac catheterizations.
  • Providing education and support to patients and their families regarding their condition and post-operative care.
