Are you passionate about helping new mothers and their babies succeed in their breastfeeding journey? Bay Regional Medical Center is currently seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Lactation Consultant to join our team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As a Lactation Consultant, you will play a vital role in promoting and supporting breastfeeding, providing guidance, education, and assistance to new mothers.
Responsibilities
- Assessing and evaluating breastfeeding techniques and addressing any issues or concerns
- Providing one-on-one consultations and developing individualized care plans
- Offering guidance on breastfeeding positions and latch techniques
- Assisting with breast pump and breastfeeding equipment education
- Educating mothers on the benefits of breastfeeding and offering support during their transition
- Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for mothers and babies
- Facilitating support groups and providing breastfeeding education to families
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation
Requirements
- Valid certification as a Lactation Consultant
- Strong knowledge of breastfeeding techniques, infant nutrition, and related medical conditions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Flexible schedule to accommodate varying needs of new mothers
- Prior experience in a similar role is preferred but not mandatory
